Ocean Yachts was founded in 1977 by a group of ex-Pacemaker employees headed
by Jack Leek. Their first boat was the Ocean 40 Super Sport.
• The 1980s saw Ocean Yachts establish itself in the marketplace for their Super Sport
series of David Martin-designed offshore convertibles.
• By the latter part of the decade Ocean had expanded to include Sunliner motor
yachts to compliment their sportfishing boats.
• The Ocean 53 SS was one of the first convertibles to break the 4 0-knot barrier in 1994.
• Ocean Yachts positioned themselves as a more affordable alternative to products
from Viking, Hatteras and Bertram.
• During the 1990s, Ocean was one of the largest manufacturers of sportfishing yachts,
37' to 73', in the industry.
• Viking Yachts purchased Ocean facilities in December, 2015. In February, 2016 Egg
Harbor purchased the molds and the Ocean Yacht name.
