Joshua is the Official Tall Ship for the City of Mobile.
She was built to USCG specs for a passenger carrying vessel. Her certification expired after the death of her owner/captain, not due to discrepancies. If a new owner wanted to use her as a charter boat for over 6 passengers she would have to be reinspected but USCG has a complete file of this vessel.
She was designed after the coastal schooners which sailed the Gulf Coast of the U.S. back in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
Her construction was started at Zirlott Boat Yard in Bayou La Batre and completed at Grand Mariner Marina, Dog River, Alabama.
Her draft with board up of 3.5’ makes her ideal for shallow water areas. She can sail quite well with minimum board down.
Her top mast is a sliding top mast rig which can easily be lowered to allow her to go under 50’ ICW bridges, power lines, etc.
She is built entirely of pressure treated pine with the exception of her transom which is mahogany.
All fasteners are 316 S/S per USCG regs.
